Why is it that you can never seem to find something when you really need it? Well, when I finally got around to shooting this year’s family portrait, I seemed to be missing the critical component necessary to connect my camera to the tripod. The same very thing that I had used at a shoot only a few days previously. Needless to say, by the time I got something rigged up, it was getting late and the novelty of setting up a studio in the living room was wearing off for the boys fast. Ok, I will admit wasting more than a few minutes shooting what has become my new facebook profile picture. Having looked at some really cool family portraits online and having gone back and forth with my wife Tracy about the concept, I was kind of feeling a little pressure. As you’ll see, we ended up keeping it pretty simple which is definitely fitting for us and I think it all worked out. I don’t do a lot of back and white simply because I really like color but for some reason, I really liked what was happening with the B&W and decided to run with it.
